Scholar Spotlight: Maria Pascual

Name: Maria Pascual

College: Bakersfield College

Major: Undeclared

Class of: 2023

Scholar's Story:

"I’m a first generation student attending Bakersfield community college. I suggest to attend summer courses right after graduating from high school, so you can get a feel of how classes are going to be like in the fall semester. During summer you can only take two classes, meaning you will already have completed 2 of your general eds. Summer courses are covered if you qualify for the BOG Waiver. I recommend to apply to programs such as EOP&S and Finish in 4. These programs, aside from financial aid, will give you extra money to pay for your books.

"College will really try you, but keep pushing through it."

Also, don’t be afraid to talk to your professors most of the time they are willing to help you if you are failing, visit them in their office hours for help. Create study groups with at least 3 people in the subject your struggling in. Stay on top of you assignments and keep the Class Syllabus handy. College will really try you, but keep pushing through it."
