Hello everyone! How are you all doing? The start of classes is right around the corner. Two more weeks and I start my third year of college. I am both excited and nervous for it to begin. Not only that but I will be moving into my new apartment.
That is why I am going to show you all how I am planning to make my move easy. I will be breaking down how I figured out what I need to bring. I thought it would be a good idea to show you all my thought process rather than just giving you all only a list. Enjoy!
Luckily, my apartment will already be furnished meaning I do not have to buy anything extremely big. I thought it was easier to plan by room so that is what I did.
Room
When it comes to where I will be sleeping, aka my room, the first thing I am packing is bedding. This includes sheets, a comforter, pillows, and pillow covers. I also am taking clothes, shoes, organizers, and hangers for the closet. As mentioned in my dorm favorites post, an ottoman is a game-changer. I already had one from last year so I will make sure to bring that with me as well. For my desk/study area, I plan on bringing extension cords, lamps, organizers, and a small mirror for it. I am keeping it pretty simple and minimal just because I love having a clutter-free room when it comes to studying without distraction! After moving in and settling in, I will begin to think of how I can decorate it and make it my own.
Bathroom
For our bathroom, I will be sharing it with my roommate so it is a little difficult to plan ahead. However, what I will be taking for sure are towels, shower shoes, toiletries, hair tools, and other personal items needed for the bathroom. Once we are together, my roommate and I will discuss what is needed for the bathroom that we can share the cost for. If I had to guess, it would be items such as toilet paper and cleaning supplies. Either way, that is pretty much all I plan on taking for my bathroom.
Kitchen
Like the bathroom, given that I will share the kitchen with three other people (including my roommate), I have not planned out everything for it. As of now, I have only bought a couple of plates, bowls, cups, and storage containers. I also got a set of knives and big spoons to be able to prepare food with. While I already have a "blender", my NutriBullet, I still have yet to buy a few utensils (knives/forks), pots and pans, and cleaning supplies. A big reason why I have held out on this is that I am unsure if it is something my roommates would want to buy together. Again, I will continue to buy for my kitchen as I see a need for it!
Living Room
Now, for the living room, I won't be buying much just because it will already come furnished and it will be a common area. However, I do plan on having some items at hand for when I do spend time there. For example, I think a throw blanket and an extension cord would be nice to have ready for when I feel like lounging. Other than that, I think this is the space I need the least amount of things for!
As you can see, when thinking about what to pack, I try to be efficient about it in order to avoid overpacking and overbuying. From my first year living in the dorms, I realized that I do not need much and that I work better in an environment that is not full of too many items. I have already talked about this before, but I am a firm believer that you do not need to buy everything before you move in. It is okay to buy after and as you go. Only buying what you need will ultimately help you save money!

I hope this helps you all! Everyone's checklist looks different so make sure you take that into account when shopping for back to school!
